Just before 4:30AM, Station 62, Station 64(Norco), Montgomery County Tower 51 (Limerick) and Medic 329 (Goodwill EMS) were dispatched to the 400 block of Crest Lane for a building fire reported to be a second floor balcony spreading to the roof. Assistant 62 arrived on location reporting fire through the roof and requested the working fire dispatch. East Coventry and North Coventry Police arrived and began to evacuate apartments.Engine 64-5, Tower 64 and Engine 62-1 arrived on scene, and immediately began assisting with evacuating occupied apartments and fire suppression. Engine 62-5 arrived and established a water supply. Station 63 (Liberty Fire Co), Montgomery County Stations 51 (Limerick), 58 (Sanatoga), 69 (Pottstown Fire Dept), 79 ( Upper Pottsgrove), and North Penn Goodwill Serviceswere called to the scene to assist with fire suppression efforts. Tower 64 and Tower 51 utilized ladder pipes to gain control of the fire on the roof. All companies on scene worked for several hours to bring the fire under control. Residents evacuated safely and without injury. Several occupants were displaced from their apartments. The Red Cross was on scene to assist residents. North Penn Fire Company assisted crews with their canteen unit. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating. Companies operated on scene for nearly 5 hours. A special thanks to Stations 47(Lionville), 48 (Glen Moore), and 6 (West Whiteland) for covering our local and for assisting us with getting the trucks back into service shortly after returning to the station.
