It has come to our attention, unfortunately once again, that there are organizations claiming to be collecting money to assist our volunteer fire companies calling people and asking for money. As far as we know, none of the volunteer companies in our area use phone solicitation to raise money. We believe the callers are claiming to be from "Fireman's Association of the State of PA" or a similar name. The Better Business Bureau {doesn't have complete list} says it has no information, at this time, for this company and www.CharityNavigator.org {doesn't have complete list} and IRS Search for Charities, Online Version of Publication 78 {should be complete list} come up with no "hits" on that name, or variations.

Chester County Hero Fund

This is the only official Chester County organization for donating to help Fire/Police/EMS in Chester county.

It is a qualified charity under IRC section 501(c)(3).

Many of the board members are Fire/Police/EMS.

99% of the funds raised are used to benefit of fallen first responders and/or their families!!

While we applaud and welcome your desire to assist, PLEASE make sure that it is a valid charity that will be giving the majority of the collected funds to the stated cause. Unfortunately there are a lot of "FAKE" Charities asking for money in the name of worthy causes.

Please send any additional information about this charity, or others involving Fire/Police/EMS, valid or invalid, to WEBMASTER Thanks.

It's summer and people are cleaning their yards and burning brush, etc.

Brush Burning

While MOST of the townships around here do NOT have written rules for burning there are some things to consider and do!

You should check with your township BEFORE burning!

Do NOT burn after dark!

DO stay where you can see the fire!

Do NOT burn rubber, oil, plastic, etc. Only brush, leaves, etc.!

DO keep a rake nearby to push and pull burning material back into the burn pile!

Do NOT make a smoky fire that blows into your neighbors yard!

(Get the fire burning hot BEFORE you dump a lot on it. If it starts smoking, wait until it gets going again.)

DO have a charged line ready! (Make sure you have a hose ready and the water is on and nozzle working)

(It's too late to find the hose, connect it, turn it on, and get to the burn pile AFTER the fire has started to spread!)

Do NOT burn on a windy day!

(It will blow smoke into your neighbors yards AND there is a danger of it spreading!)

DO call the Chester County Fire Board, (610)933-8968, BEFORE and AFTER burning.

(This is so the fire company {hopefully} won't be called out in full force to extinguish your fire!)
