National Night Out - 08/07/2012

"National Night Out" America's Night Out Against Crime

  On Tuesday August 7th, 2012 St Peter UCC in Knauertown (Route 23) "ran" their first "National Night Out" event from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM - Flyer {PDF 190KB}

  "National Night Out" is an event sponsered by "National Association of Town Watch"

  Ridge Fire Company participated in a Rescue Demo and ran the Northern Chester County Chiefs  Safety Trailer. Also present were Ludwigs Corner Fire Company, Twin Valley Fire Company, Elverson Ambulance, Chester County Sheriff, and Chester County 911.   Twin Valley Fire and Ridge Fire Companys Fire Police provided traffic control.   People were able to look at and sit in fire trucks! Safety information was available.

  In the pictures below you will see the "trapped victim" being removed from a car. In Picture#15 and #34, and others, rescue workers stabilize the victim's head. This prevents movement until the medics are able to determine any neck injury.   In Picture#34 you will see that the victim is covered with a blanket. This prevents any pieces of glass and metal, caused by the extrication, from injuring the victim.   In Pictures#23 & #24, Pictures#25 & #26 rescue workers remove the front doors.   In Pictures#29 & #30, Pictures#31 & #32, Picture#33 and you will see the rescue workers cutting into the roof getting ready to "roll" the roof.   In Picture#22 you will see rescuers pulling out a pike poll.   The pike poll is placed across the roof and pressed down allowing the rescuers to roll the roof back.   You can see the rolled roof in Picture#34, Pictures#35 & #36, and Picture#37.   In Pictures#37 & #38 medics put a collar around the victims neck.   Notice how easy it is for the medic to reach the victim.   In Pictures#43 & #44 you will see the medics and rescuers removing the victim from the car and placing on a gurney.   In Picture#52 you will see the victim fully strapped to the gurney and ready for transport.

  In Picture#73 you will see a line outside the Northern Chester County Chiefs  Safety Trailer.   You can see "smoke" coming out of the top. The Safety Trailer is a small "home" that can be used to demonstrate safe practices around the house and how to deal with a fire in your house. The smoke is party smoke that isn't harmful, though many people find the experience very intense. For that reason, and because it MAY trigger asthma attacks, we always ask before we fill a room with the smoke. We open the back door so, if it becomes too much, the person can step right out of the trailer.   Members of the Northern Chester County Chiefs, and other organizations who have rented the Safety Trailer from the Northern Chester County Chiefs, have reported a drop in some types of calls after starting to use at community days, etc.
