Second Working House Fire in 2 Days

  On April 14, 2009 at 0347Hrs the Chester County Fire Board alerted the Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62) and Goodwill Ambulance of Pottstown (Medic 329) for a Chimney Fire on Coventryville Rd between Rose Ln and Franklin Dr in South Coventry Twp. Chief 62 was responding when Chester advised that the caller advised the fire was contained to the chimney with fire coming out of the top, and the house was being evacuated. Engine 62-1 was responding when Battalion 62 went on scene with heavy fire from side D of the 2 story Single Family Dwelling. Battalion 62 assumed Coventryville Command and requested the assignment upgraded to a Working House Fire and struck the first alarm Tanker Taskforce due to the limited water supply in the area. Chester then re-alerted Station 62 for the working house fire and added Norco Fire Co. (Station 64) for their Tower and Tanker, Twin Valley Fire Dept (Station 69) for their Rescue and Engine 69-5, Liberty Fire Co. (Station 63) for Engine 63-5, and Ludwigs Corner Fire Co. (Station 73) for Tanker 73. Engine 62-1 arrived shortly after the upgrade and began an aggressive exterior attack with a 2 ½” Blitz Gun, and several 1 ½” attack lines with foam. First in crews completed a primary search of the residence confirming the house was evacuated. PECO and Chester County Fire Marshalls were also requested to respond on the working fire dispatch. Crews from Station 69 and Tower 64 laddered the residence and performed ventilation. Command then requested an engine to respond to Rt 100 and Hartman Dr to establish a fill site. Linfield Fire Co. (MontCo Station 51) responded with Engine 51-1 to the fill site, once the fill site was no longer needed Engine 51-1 responded to the scene with manpower. In addition to the medic unit on stand-by, Goodwill Ambulance responded with their rehab unit for the exhausted fire fighters. At 0454Hrs Command placed the fire under control, and requested Belfor Restoration and Board Up to the scene to secure and board up the residence. Final units cleared the scene after an extensive overhaul of the structure at 0650Hrs.
