House Fire Upgrade in Ridglea

On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at 1810Hrs Chester County Dispatch alerted Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62), Norco Fire Co. (Station 64) for their tower truck, and Goodwill Ambulance of Pottstown (MontCo Medic 329-4) to Hartman Rd between Lindley Ln and Bechtel Ln in the Ridglea Development of South Coventry Twp for a chimney fire. Deputy 62 (Kolb) immediately went in route and was advised that there were flames out the top of the chimney and the residents were evacuating. Engine 62-1 and Tower 64 were responding shortly after the report. Battalion 62 (Mowrer) arrived on scene with fire showing from the rear of the two story house and requested the assignment upgraded to a house fire. Chester County re-dispatched the stations for the house fire adding the balance of the apparatus out of station 62. Engine 62-5 and Rescue 62 responded with the upgrade. Deputy 62 arrived on scene and established Hartman Rd Command. Engine 62-1 was instructed to pull past the house leaving room for Tower 64 to ladder the chimney. Engine 62-5 stood-by at the hydrant at Hartman and Lindley Ln. Crews from Engine 1 and 5 split crews deploying the 150’ bumper line, and 250’ 1.5” crosslay to the rear of the house knocking down the bulk of the fire venting out the middle of the chimney box between the first and second floors. Crews also stretched a 300’ 1.5” crosslay from 62-1 to the inside of the house while checking for extension into the residence. Tower 64 stretched their bucket to the roof and began opening up the chimney box for overall, and performed ventilation. Chester County FM Holt (FM 100) responded to the scene to perform the investigation. The fire was placed under control at 1839Hrs with overhauling of the roof and chimney area to be completed. Command was broken down and all units were clear of the scene by 1946hrs.
