House Fire - 9/1/2008

Labor Day Holiday Saves House

On Monday, September 01, 2008 at 11:14hrs Chester County Dispatch alerted Ridge Fire Co (Station 62), Kimberton Fire Co (Station 61) for an Engine, and West End Ambulance Sub Station (MICU 1-67) for a house fire on Deer Run CI in the Kimberton Hunt development off of W. Seven Stars Rd in East Vincent Twp. Chester County advised Chief 62 that they were receiving multiple calls reporting the back of a house involved in fire and that neighbors were forcing entry to the house to check on occupants. Police and Deputy 62 arrived on scene and corrected the location to Overlook CI in the Kimberton Hunt development. Neighbors had knocked down the fire on the back side of the garage with a garden hose when Engine 62-2 arrived. Crews lead off with a hose line to the rear of the house to hose down the second story and eves of the garage. Engine 62-5 and Engine 61-2 arrived and sent a crew into the house to check for fire extension above the garage. Interior crews had a difficult time accessing the large unfinished attic space above the garage. Once access was gained crews found fire extension in the roof trusses. A line from Engine 62-2 was advanced into the attic and the fire was quickly extinguished. Ventilation was established to clear the house of any remaining smoke. Overlook Command placed the fire under control at 1136hrs. Chester County Fire Marshalls were dispatched to the scene, and determined the cause to be possibly from ashes left in a trashcan next to the house. It is unknown how long the fire might of spread before being detected and reported, if it had not been the Labor Day Holiday with many neighbors home from work. Overlook Command placed all units returning and available at 1228Hrs

Units On Scene: Eng 62-2, Eng 62-5, Eng 61-1, Squad 62, Traffic 62, MICU 1-67-2, FM 100, FM 109, and East Vincent PD
