Station 62 Assists Kimberton with House Fire 9/3/2005
On Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 10:51 Hours Chester County Dispatch alerted Station 61 (Kimberton) and Station 72 (Spring Ford Rescue Squad) to a residence on Merlin road between Pikeland Rd and Honeysuckle La in Charlestown Twp for a House Fire. Then at 11:14 Hours Chester County Dispatched Station 62 (Ridge) for Engine 62-5 to stand-by at Station 61 (Kimberton) while they were at the house fire in Charlestown Twp. While en route to Station 61, Merlin Rd Command requested two more tankers to the scene. Chester County then diverted Engine 62-5 to the scene. When Engine 62-5 arrived at the scene Command requested the Engine's crew to the house and Engine 62-5 to stand-by at the end of a driveway that ranged from 2500-3000 ft in length for water supply. First in units had laid a 5" supply line down the driveway for the tankers to supply at the road. Once the fire was under control, all water supply operations at the road were shut down and Engine 62-5 and all the other tankers proceed down the driveway to supply the units directly without the 3000' of 5" supply line. During the height of the fire the house structure itself was severely damaged by heat and fire causing all interior crews to evacuate the house and begin an exterior attack of the fire. Once the fire was under control a large-scale overhaul operation went under way until all crews were able to clear the scene at 15:25 Hours. One Firefighter was also transported to the hospital with heat related problems. Chester County Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. All Companies that assisted at the scene: Kimberton, Spring Ford Rescue, East Whiteland, Lionville, Ridge, Oaks, Valley Forge, Malvern, Phoenix Hook and Ladder, West End Ambulance, and Chester County Fire Marshals. All Companies that assisted with relocates: Norco, Ludwigs Corner, Sanatoga, and Paoli.
