Stokes Basket Practice - 5/13/2008

During our weekly Tuesday Evening Training members got to practice and learn how to transfer a patient to a backboard and then into a stokes basket for rescue. Crews practiced on our Rescue Dummy first before on an actual member. Once the simulated rescue team had the “patient” on the backboard and into the basket they secured him in the basket using the equipped straps on the stokes basket, along with rescue webbing. Crews used the webbing to fit the “Patient” with a harness, then secured both feet to the bottom of the basket before using a long section of webbing to weaving back and forth across the basket to create a web to ensure the “patient” would not fall out of the basket no matter on what position or angle the basket is at. Before the team could complete the drill they had to safely maneuver the basket around the parking lot to simulate transporting the patient to an ambulance. We would like to thank Firefighter Kasznay for participating as our “patient”
