2 Vehicle Accident Rt. 100 - 5/17/2008

Auto Accident upgraded with Confinement

On Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 1150Hrs Pennsylvania State Police Embreeville dispatched a Trooper to a property damage accident on Rt. 100 south of Rt. 23 in South Coventry Township. PSP received supplemental information stating that one of the occupants was complaining of neck pain. The responding trooper requested an Ambulance to the scene. While Goodwill Ambulance of Pottstown (Medic 329) was being dispatched an EMT from Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company (73-52) arrived on scene of the accident and advised Chester County Fire Board that he had a two vehicle accident blocking Rt. 100, two possible patients with one being trapped in the vehicle. At that time Chester County Fire Board upgraded the incident to an accident with entrapment, dispatching Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62). Rescue 62 arrived on scene with the Battalion and established Rt. 100 Command. Crews stabilized both vehicles, cleared the necessary glass, and made quick work of removing the driver’s door of the SUV. Rescue crews then assisted EMS in immobilizing and packaging the patient for transport. Fire Police had shut down Rt. 100 between Rt. 23 and Pughtown Rd during the rescue. Medic 329-6 transported one patient to Reading Hospital, while Medic 329-9 received a refusal of treatment and went available. Battalion 62 broke down command and made all 62 units available at 1233hrs.
