Auto Accident 1/13/2006

Car vs Delivery Truck South Coventry Township

  On Friday, January 13, 2006 at 13:14 Hrs Chester County Dispatch alerted Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62) Goodwill Ambulance (MontCo 329) and West End Ambulance Sub-Station (MICU 1-67-4) covering for station 329 to the 1100 block of Ridge rd (Rt 23) between New Philadelphia Rd and Daisy Point Rd for an Auto Accident with Entrapment in South Coventry Township. Deputy 62 responded and dispatch advised him that they were receiving multiple call of a small car vs. a delivery box truck and that the subject was still in the car. Deputy 62 arrived on scene and found a small Volkswagen partially underneath the side of the truck with confirmed entrapment of one subject and heavy damage to the car. At that time Deputy 62 requested a aero-medical helicopter, but due to fog in the area all helicopters were grounded, Rt 23 command was also established. A second MICU from 67 was also requested bring MICU 67-2 to the scene. Rescue 62 and Squad 62 arrived on scene and began going to work on spreading the driver's door open, removing the driver's side rear door along with the entire B post. Also part of the steering wheel was removed, and the pedals were cut off to free the victim from the car. Engine 62-2 also went on scene and began assisting in extrication and patient care. All extrication of the patient was completed by 13:39 Hrs. MICU 67-2 transported the trauma patient by ground to Reading. The driver of the delivery truck was also transported to the hospital by MICU 1-67-4. Rt 23 Command request 32 fire police (Elverson Fire Co) to be dispatched to assist with traffic control at Rt 23 and Daisy Point Rd. State Police then arrived on scene and requested additional fire police to the scene due to an extended road closure for their investigation. At that time command requested station 64 fire police (Norco Fire Co) dispatched to assist with traffic control. Once the state police finished their investigation and all debris and vehicles were removed, command was broken down, and all units were able to open the road and return available at 16:57 Hrs.

Units on Scene: Rescue 62, Engine 62-2, Squad 62, Traffic 62, Traffic 64, Utility 32, MICU 1-67-4, MICU 67-2, Medic 67, 62,32, and 64 fire police, and State Police Embreeville Barracks.
